PULCE is led by leading Australian physiotherapists Dr Alison Thorpe, Specialist Sports Physiotherapist (as awarded by the Australian College of Physiotherapists 2009) and Dr Sonia Ranelli, Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist.
They work closely with medical specialists (surgeons, sport and exercise medicine physicians, rheumatologists, pain specialists, general practitioners), allied healthcare providers (other physiotherapists, occupational therapists, exercise physiologists and massage therapists) and insurers, to provide expert advice and care for people with a range of upper limb conditions. On-referral to other members of the healthcare team.
Clinical Area of Expertise
The Perth Upper Limb Centre of Excellence offers an holistic, client-centred rehabilitation programs for the person with shoulder, hand, wrist and elbow problems. Patients commonly referred to the centre include people with: sports, performing arts and work – related problems such as; rotator cuff disorders, shoulder instability, tennis/golfer’s elbow, DeQuervain’s tenosynovitis and carpal tunnel syndrome; clients having undergone shoulder, elbow, hand or wrist surgery such as; rotator cuff repair, shoulder replacement, flexor and extensor tendon repairs; clients having sustained trauma to their upper limb, and clients with age-related problems such as; frozen shoulder, arthritis of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, thumb and fingers.
Research Area of Expertise
Our physiotherapists are committed to research endeavours that makes a difference to clinical practice. Dr Thorpe and Dr Ranelli are teaching and research academics at Curtin University. They have completed doctoral studies in the area of upper limb musculoskeletal disorders. They are currently involved in research projects to inform evidence-based care pathways for upper limb conditions.
